All that is left behind

At Vanhankaupunginlahti bay in Helsinki, a mute swan (Cygnus olor) family was making travel arrangements. This included eating as well as thorough preening in order to be in good shape for the journey.

Most of the mute swans in Finland stay for the winter, but some migrate to the southen parts of the Baltic Sea. During winter, all the inland lakes and sometimes even the Baltic Sea freezes on the Finnish coastline.
