Dunecht, Aberdeenshire: The Potato Harvest

I travel past this field regularly on the way between my offices in Inverurie and Banchory.

I vividly recall seeing, earlier in the year, the deep, sharp new-cut furrows ready for the seed potatoes; followed later by the sudden rush of bright green foliage.

That lush foliage was killed off a week or so past with a spray of sulphuric acid; now it's time to harvest the tubers from the thick, cloying Aberdeenshire mud.
