Memorial to the murdered Jews of Europe
Last time we came to Berlin they were still constructing this memorial and even though there was a viewing platform for the work going on, it was hard to 'get it'. Even now when you stand at the edge of the field of stellae looking in, the deeper meaning is a little opaque. But when you walk deeper in, and the stones get higher and more oppressive, it becomes startling apparent. The grid like effect just traps you. You can't escape upwards, or sideways. It is bleak and of course have I mentioned that it was raining?? (see Monday 27th)
More on flickr :-)
Very powerful and well worth a visit if you get the chance.
