There are two remaining red signposts in Dorset - one near the bridge (see yesterday's blip) and this one north of Sherborne. Some say they were the sites of gibbets but more likely they were used to guide illitterate guards who were taking shackled prisoners from prisons afar to Portsmouth to await transportation down under
