Old roots

This beech tree usually has its roots in the River Alyn which runs through Devil's Gorge at Pantymwyn. The river has disappeared and I don't know why. Does anyone local to here know if this is normal. I have never seen it dry before?

It was hard to choose between this and the black and white as I liked them both.
