The Goths

The Dean is one of the few pubs in Scotland which operate on the 'Gothenburg System' where the profits are used for the benefit of the community. These pubs are known as 'Goths'. There were a number of these pubs in Scotland's coal-mining communities

There are many buildings and public facilities in Newtongrange today which were built with Dean profits.
