Help me please. I have had an adsl line installed at the flat but cannot open any web pages. I have run diagnostic checks, everything checks out, i have used a pc laptop to connect successfully, i have had the engineer come out and have a look (but he doesn't know iBook), i am spending a fortune in Starbucks using their wireless connection and drinking too much coffee (shake - bounce). Can anybody shed some light on this, it's doing my head in.

My techno mate back home sent me these instructions

Usually with the Mac it?s pretty simple, I take it you?ve configured it using the PPoE optionsto enter a username and password?

Check the PPoE menu, click the PPoE Options button, and make sure the ?Connect automatically when needed? option is checked.

The other thing to check is whether it?s able to translate the web address your typing (www.google.com for example) to it?s IP address which it uses to get the page (66.249.85.104 for example). An easy way to tell this is to bring up a Terminal window on your mac (it?s in the finder->Applications somewhere) and type nslookup www.google.com if it can find it it will return an answer.

If it is that then you?ll have to specify dns server addresses (ip addresses) in the TCP/IP tab next top the PPoE options. The ADSL provider should have details of what those should be.

I've done all this and the company insist there is no need to enter specific ip addresses, "it's all automatic" and when i ask for the ip addresses they steadfastly refuse.
