Zocos

About 10 minures drive from where I am staying in Lanzarote takes you to La Geria which is the wine growing region.

However forget aboout lush green vines amidst rolling hills and greenery. Here the background is volcanoes and row upon row of dimple like craters and volcanic stone semi-circles. These are called Zocos, and they have been built for each individual vine and provide much needed protection from the sometimes fierce winds.

There are plenty of bodegas to stop at and sample the Lanzarote wines on the road that runs from Uga to San Bartolomew - but not for the driver!!
