Honeysuckle berries
This honeysuckle in my back yard is not very prolific but this year it produced a few lovely dark pink flowers and now these dark berries. I hope this means it's settling down and will grow a bit more enthusiastically next year.
I planted it about three years ago after a terrible garden disaster. When I moved into the house there was a big flowerbed in the yard with a vigorous honeysuckle. However, what I didn't know was that the flowerbed had been placed over the main drain and the honeysuckle roots had grown downwards like a triffid and eventually blocked it completely. After days of investigations and satellite technology to locate the drain, the whole flowerbed had to come up one afternoon and the honeysuckle removed. When it came out with a horrible dragging sucking noise, a huge flood of dark grey smelly water surged up into the garden to about four inches deep, and had to be sucked out. What a mess! I lost all the plants, had the yard paved with access to the manhole and now just have pots and a few plants in small spaces. This honeysuckle is a bit of a reminder so it's probably a good thing it doesn't grow very large!
