meeting the coast
The Namib desert is as dead as it gets. For hours today we were driving on this sand road with absolutely nothing in sight except the skeletons of ancient trees. We didn't see one cloud the entire week, but about an hour before reaching the coast the sun disappeared in salty mist. It wasn't really fog, just a cool haze. I'd struggled to keep control of the Nissan at 80 kmph for most of the afternoon, but the moisture turned the road into a quiet, sticky race track. Blasting toward the ocean at 170 (still kmph) was one of the best feelings I've ever had in a moto. John Hiatt seemed to enjoy it too.
