Life Work
A shot from the private view of the Liverpool Biennial. This is part - just a small part! - of the documentation for Tehching Hsieh's "Life Work", a performance piece conducted in 1980/1.
For a year, the artist punched a time card every hours. He evidenced each "clock in" with a single frame of 16mm film.
For the Biennial, FACT have printed all of the film, and lined the walls of Gallery 1 with the strips and the time cards. The sheer scale of the undertaking takes on a physical significance as you enter the room.
