Gerbera - not an old mill!
We rarely go into Bradford except to work but today we needed to pick up a bespoke console table in nearby Liversedge. I thought I might find something to blip as it was reputedly on 'Gasworks Street', which sounded intriguing, but no sign of the aforesaid street on the modern industrial development.
With this sort of theme in mind I kept lookout on the way home and saw a semi derelict mill with once proud turrets but now with grass sprouting out of the roof and broken windows. The thing that interested me was what looked like an equally decrepit sign which read 'Coming soon - luxury apartments and retail units'.
Best laid plans - how sad and very much an image of our current economic times. I much prefer to see these old buildings reused rather than being demolished but I think this one may have missed it's chance.
We also passed two Sikh Gudwaras and several Happy Eid signs all these indications of Bradford's past and present.
My husband kept spotting '60' registration plates and when I missed them said that I 'go round with my eyes closed'. Well I just don't look at cars but since becoming a blipper every journey is one of discovery and possibilities - the only trouble is he was driving and so many of these interesting things are spotted when in the middle of a busy junction!!
Anyway I didn't like the pictures I took of the mill so here is a Gerbera which has flowered in a pot on our shady patio table all summer. Longest I have ever kept one - it was a gift from a friend last Easter when we had a party for my son's return home from Afghanistan. Still looks pretty good I think --here - only my second blip ever!
