Grouse Mountain

We took a trip up Grouse Mountain today.  You can get the cable car both ways, but it costs $40 each, so being cheap skates we decided to walk up.  Due to its steepness however, you HAVE to get the cable car back, but then it's only $10 each.

A 2.9 km walk, which doesn't sound too bad until you learn that the elevation gain is around 2,799 feet. The average elevation is at 16.2 degrees, however some parts of the track are at 30 degrees.

We took just over 2 hours to reach the top. We were pleased with ourselves. It's a popular track for local fitness freaks. The record time this year for getting up to the top is 23 minutes, which is massively impressive considering the cable car takes 6 minutes.

There were ski lifts, a bear sanctuary, restaurant, cafe and an obligatory over priced gift shop at the top.

And some spectacular views.

Sadly due to the haze the photos didn't turn out as well as I'd have hoped, so I had to add some effects on to make them look a little more interesting.

Here's down town Vancouver from the top of Grouse Mountain.

On the downside, I don't think I'll be able to walk for a few days now.  That's my exercise quota for the year used up.
