Thirsty Work
I have had a very busy Polar training day today.
After a quick dog walk, I had an intense Pilate's session with Sarah. There was lots of zipping and pulling in of the core; thigh and bottom clenching and driving of energy through the toes and feet. I thought it was a very tough session for the second lesson back of the term.
Later in the morning I drove to Bisham Abbey in Bucks; this is home to the National Sports Centre, where all our elite athletes train. A very impressive set up. We were given a brief tour by Greg Whyte before having a very short sharp workout on the rowing machines to build up and train with lactic acid. It was very hot sweaty work!
After a shower and a quick (large lunch), we had a quick trip up Mount Blanc in the altitude chamber. With temperatures of zero degrees, and at an altitude of 400M (where the percentage of oxygen is half that available normally) gentle cycling on a bike was quite hard work.
We all appreciated the constant supply of drink by Glacéau vitamin water, who had hosted the day. This is me enjoying a few minutes behind the wheel. I've always loved VW Vans!
