Work Shoes

There's sand in his work shoes
from drudgery all day
brown and leathery,
Oh, what else can I say?

Sturdy, as you can see
bruised, all used and dirty,
soiled and greasy on the outside
but comfy and warm inside.

Up and about by sunrise
toils hard for the day's keep
sweats off the sacrifice
Oh! They don't ever sleep!

Truly, it keeps my beloved
homewards ahead
to where it rests
a pair of tired and weary feet.
