Gillipaw's Journal

Peace Be With You .... It Certainly Was.

Everything has come to a halt on the southside of Glasgow today. This is the view down Titwood Road from Crossmyloof, heading towards the M77 and Bellahouston Park. The Pope has arrived in Scotland, and is celebrating Mass in the park this evening.

The roads were strangely quiet from first thing, as just beyond the bridge, the road is closed off and the bus parking area begins. The only noise all day was from the occasional circulating helicopter. Police all over the place, no parking at the sides of the roads.

I have lived in the area for nearly 30 years and never ever seen this road with no traffic. It's the road to Hampden one way and to Ibrox in the other direction, so even at weekends it is very busy. Taken around 5.30 pm when it would be jammed with traffic.

As I dashed into the supermarket for milk, I felt rather sorry for two young African priests, sporting long Papal image scarves. They had either got lost en route, or hadn't been able to get a ticket.

Amused by Bryan Burnett on BBC Radio Scotland's "Get it on" just after 7 pm. He was asking listeners to phone in about the best open air gigs they'd been to.

Some friends went to the Mass, indeed they had the whole day off work. It will be interesting to hear about it all tomorrow.
