Look closely...
...and you'll be able to see this dragonfly's wings. They are so delicate that you almost look right through them. How in the world do these almost invisible, transparent wings keep the dragonfly in the air? It's amazing!
When I took the butterfly and dragonfly photography workshop last month, one of the participants asked the instructor why dragonflies always posed on dead twigs and leaves...or so it seemed whenever she wanted to take their picture. Apparently that's not always the case, but they do like to perch on high places like the tip of branches, twigs, and the top of flowers. Those tiptop places are often dead or have less color than the rest of the plant. In this case, the dragonfly decided to land on the ground...mostly on bare spots on the ground, so I got down on the ground too and blipped it from the side as well as I could. I hope you like it.
