EASTERN BAR-TAILED GODWITS
The story of the Bar-tailed Godwits is well known in that they fly non-stop to the Estuary areas of NZ - each year from Siberia and Alaska A remarkable journey of thousands of miles. The main lot hasn't arrived here yet and I imagine they wont be too long away They usually come some time in September so we are clearing the runway for their arrival.
Here In christchurch they usually ring the bells at the Cathedral for their departure.and the Morris Dancers also do their thing!! I'm not much into Morris dancing but I do have a great seal of respect for these little champion flyers.
These ones blipped today are juveniles who did not return with the flock last season and have wintered over -
