Wet, wet, wet
I think it was Alan Titchmarsh, Charlie Dimmock and co. who elevated the 'water feature' to iconic status.
Well, they might have been onto something because it is incredibly soothing and meditative to watch and listen to running water - even if it's in the middle of a city centre.
This is the fountain in Bristol's Quakers Friars area and I was very surprised to see it in full flow at 7.30 this morning.
Usually at this time of day it is switched off and as I walk across the pavement I'm nervous that it might suddenly do that Marilyn Monroe thing, only with cold water and not hot air!
For the fountain emerges from tiny holes in the paving stones. When it is switched off, the paving looks like any other paving, with no hint of its liquid secret.
Anyway, it makes for an attractive centrepiece in a rather posh area of town where I only ever stop to drool inside the Apple store.
But poshness aside, it is a beautiful quarter that boasts the wonderful Cutlers Hall, which dates back to the 13th century. The building is now used by the Brasserie Blanc.
What a feature that is! Maybe one for a future blip!
