The back of the Omni Centre.
When I was a kid the Omni Centre was a big hole in the ground. Before that there were Victorian tenements, built in an era when a whole family living in a single room with no running water, sanitation or natural light was 'honest poverty'.
In the fifties they were pulled down and the occupants relocated to light, clean, airy towers away from the urban squalor. (We all know how that worked out, but that is not part of this story).
It was only when the buildings were razed that my Dad looked at newly visible Calton Hill and commented that he finally understood why such a horrible, filthy slum was called 'Greenside'.
Then they hid it again.
