Lancaster Canal
Had a lovely ride on the Lancaster Canal today courtesy of the Lancaster Canal Trust.
The canal was started in the 1790s and when completed stretched from Preston to Kendal carrying coal north and limestone south.
Unfortunately when the M6 was built in the 1960s the canal was badly chopped up and now has missing chunks. The little bit we went on today is badly maintained and it is really only the work of the Lancaster Canal Trust that has stopped it getting worse.
The dream one day is to open it back up to Kendal and have it running all the way! This will take lots of money and permission from lots of other parties
