Reaching for the Sky

I was out for a shoot out in the evening.

However, the sun suddenly turns wintery and sets in quickly without warning as the sky today is very elusive with the rain clouds. It was quite dark by the time I shot this orchid reaching for the skylight.

I had to choose one tool from amongst my arsenal of low light - 50 mm f/1.4, tripod and of course the Speedlight. As the evening was quite windy, use of the tripod for a slow shutter speed was out of the question; and the flash - a big no no in this situation.

So the job was entrusted to my trusted normal prime, set to the widest aperture and boosting the ISO the job was executed with a reasonably high shutter speed.

Of course, I had tried other exposures at f/1.4, 1/125 sec. ISO-3200 and f/1.4, 1/250sec. ISO-6400.

Out of these three, the above image was chosen for you guys at blip.
