The Big Hit
Today at the local Golf Club there was a competition being held which is part of a week long event called the J.B.Carr Diamond Trophy. I don't know if there are real diamonds in the trophy or not but I do know that Joe Carr was one of Ireland's leading Amateur Golfers. He was ranked among the best three or four in the world in his heyday but chose not to turn pro and remained in the amateur ranks all his life. He was by profession in the "rag trade" and had a small factory in the heart of Dublin City where they made ladies clothing for several of the major City Stores.
One of the holes in Woodenbridge Golf Course plays right across a fast flowing river. The river is about 50 metres in front of the tee box and is about 25 metres wide at that point. Not the sort of place to make a biggie of an error. This guy was taking no chances. Playing an iron club for accuracy, he got plenty of loft on the ball, which is just flying out of picture, top right. He cleared the river easily.
