The fool on the hill

A model childhood

When I were a lad...
We didn't have computers. I spent all my pocket money on plastic Airfix and, later, real flying Kielkraft models.
I learned how to use hand tools, read a plan, do basic metal work, understand aerodynamics and mechanics. I spent lots of time outdoors with my pals flying them and retrieving them from trees or peoples' gardens.
My parents' house stank of cellulose dope and balsa cement.
Much better than computers.
