Repairs
Rumbly old night with many aftershocks, the kids finally "got" what this earthquake thing was all about. And they weren?t overly happy with it, but coped.
Into the office at 8am to meet the engineer, he eventually showed up at 4pm, and gave us a conditional clearance on the building. Structurally OK, but damage to the building ramparts needs to be resolved (not structural) and meaning the toilets are out of action (and the waste pipe is broken).
Regardless, most staff worked from home today, and those without a decent computer came in at 10, collected their gear, setup at home and started working. Today we turned into a truly virtual company!
Other news? The landlord has been amazing. Today we've had builders, sparkies, ceiling installers, engineers, people clearing rubble. And he?s been onsite himself supervising. Pretty amazing for a guy that has made his money in used cars.
Those of us that were in started tidying and moving gear out of the kitchen which will be unusable for the next few days, and may actually get wet tonight/tomorrow with the rain (there's still a hole in the side of the building). As a result, toilet and kitchen aside, the offices are now fully repaired and ready to go. However, we'll continue working from home for the next couple of days at least I expect.
Have to say, a great bunch of people who just got on with the job, both our staff and the team helping sort the office out. In this picture you see one of the builders, and two of the sparkies, up many metres up the side of a somewhat unstable adjoining building. Great effort.
Sad news that one of the buildings in last nights blip (energy action) will be demolished. It's toast, as expected. Like many other older buildings.
Tomorrow I am supposed to head to Auckland again for a night, I'll probably go. Not much more I can do here, that can't be done by email, and right now it's even more important to keep client relationships intact, and new sales coming.
Although having said that, so many great messages from clients, and genuine offers of help. Keep spending money I wanted to say ;-)
P>S if you want to see a ruined business with attitude check this out. This really is/was their restaurant.
