Last day
Split
As with any travel or holiday the last always brings with it that sadness. It's all over. You have to part with the countries and with your friends, some of whom (including me) are jetting of to other pastures new within the next month.
Our last day included a failed trip to the beach (it was too windy) and a fair few beers throughout the day. Time to sit and reflect on the trip. We had another great meal in the evening and sought out some bars in town. Converse to what we had originally planned though, go out to clubs etc, we found ourselves in an old fisherman's bar on the outskirts of the city. The bar was clean and simple. The glasses hung upside down from the shelves and cigarette smoke trickled up the wall, catching the non-smoking sign on its way.
It was nice to be away from the touristy inner-city Split and refreshing to talk to a local who was as interested in where you came from as you him. He talked about the Yugoslavian war; he fought for the Croats, who at first fought with the Serbs but then changed. We talked about the usual things that crop up a conversation about Scotland - football, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Braveheart. We also talked about the religion behind Celtic and Rangers, I think it was something he could relate with his own country. Somewhere that has suffered religious tension over the years.
At the end of the night we got some road beers. Perfect end to the perfect trip.
