On the train
Just back blipping...
We took the train to London for our family trip and it was one of my better ideas. The trip took five hours, which was about an hour and a half more than it would have taken in total had we flown to London (door to door, including transfers in and out of the city and all the security checks and waiting around), and it cost the same as the flights. The difference to us was our sanity. We were able to relax in a big comfy reclining seat, watch DVDs and read the papers, drink coffee and snooze, and not have to get up until we reached Kings Cross. It all sounds like simple stuff, but doing this with a five-year-old is so much better than the alternatives the airport flight would have offered.
