Oh how the rich & famous live...
Bit of a spur of the moment decision to go to London today. We'd planned to go - but then found out that the Silverlink trains were on strike. However a bit of searching and we came up with a reasonable fare on Chiltern - so headed off to 'Big Smoke' with the children. First stop the Imperial War Museum. We only managed to do the main big exhibits - tanks, doodlebugs, planes and the 'Children at War' exhibition. It was probably about the all the children could comprehend. However Joe was very interested and was quite overwhelmed. Lou had a go at spending her 'clothing' coupons - but I had to stop her when she got to 69 without a winter coat, shoes etc etc - then I explained her rations were just 48 coupons for the year. They were not impressed with the food rationing either. Keep threatening to 'try' rationing for a week... Not got any takers yet.
Then we went off to Knightsbridge to have a wander in the Harrods food halls - they aren't as wonderful food wise as I remember as a little girl - but the interiors, ceilings etc are simply stunning. Then we rode all the way up the Egyptian stairs, got to the top and turned round and came back down. Chris then sneaked back to the Food Hall to get some Gingerbread men for Lou & Joe - not like any gingerbread men I've seen and about 5 times the size of the ones that I make.
I now have two very tired children snoring away in bed. Bless.
