The Orton Effect

It's the weekend, so I've got time to play!

I've tried to apply a sort of soft-focus effect (called the Orton Effect after photographer Michael Orton) to this image using the GIMP photo editor - something I've been intending to try for a while. I'm not sure it's been entirely successful in this case, although it's added an interesting glow to the original image.
