For decades people have come from Central America to pick the produce here in the USA. It went ignored as a legal issue, and it was accepted as a normal process in agri-business here.
Suddenly, this administration wants to incite people to "doing something about the immigration problem".
Instead there should be some great thanks to these people who have come and gave so much more than they receive here.
My husband tells me that the situation represents an estoppel, and that since the immigration laws were ignored for so long, it was like saying that the immigration is legal.
Now four have died in an "immigrant camp" (is how it was put) in one of the California fires. I have to wonder why no one came to help them get out. But, then I do not wonder. Sadly, when we have hurricanes the many numbers of people who are swept away, and do not have citizenship, are not even reported accurately at all.
The people of California are angry right now. It is taking days of red tape to get any action on the planes needed for the fires. The Marines offered days before the government accepted their offer.
I can only think we have an administration who takes advantage of every opportunity to make the USA a weaker and crueler nation, and that they are doing so once again. In my opinion this is intentional. I spent too many years knowing the systems that were in place for such emergencies, and have watched sickened as each one has been replaced by some syrupy photo op.
At any rate, the people from the south would not have needed to come here, should we have kept out of their governmental activities and while they are here, they deserve a lot better than they are receiving.
