A good night's sleep makes a difference. A more noticeable one in context. Quite a few good pages and the day is underway. It is destined to be slow. Gradually the inertia wanes and a sort of empty calm settles in. Not much makes a difference. A monotonous continuation. Skimming over one thing and then the next. But never quite there. And then the conversation happens. Brief. And sufficient. Reminds me of the telephone call we had had after more than a decade, picking up as if from the middle of a conversation, as if that's the only way we knew how to talk. Needless to say it will breed memory, surreal as it was in its simplicity.
Triggered, the changes come. In small steps, as they do. I decide to take a detour, making it a 15 km ride back home. I don't know the way for sure but follow my instinct and finally directions, when they were available. Then we have a long way to go to attend tonight's dinner get-together. Again, we don't know the way but google maps (which naturally doesn't have knowledge of traffic) gives us the shortest route in terms of distance but not time. At dinner, the conversation is good, often very funny and has us all laughing. Not much sermonizing, patronizing or childish defensiveness as occasionally is the case. Even the food is good and I am hungry for it. Driving back, we seem to go in circles through empty roads but the signs, along with traces of memory from my rides help us find our way safely back.
