THE Grand Old Team
Belfast Celtic FC 1891 to 1949. 14 Irish league titles, 8 Irish cups to name just the major honours. Alegendary club founded in the Falls Road in Belfast. The club had a massive support from that area and other nationalist/ catholic parts of the North. This was not to say it was a discriminatory organisation in fact the opposite was true as it prided itself on being inclusive. The end of this wonderful club came on Boxing Day (26th December) 1948 when the players fled for their lives from the Windsor Park pitch home of their greatest rivals Linfield after a 1-1 draw. For more info look it up on the web. I have this and other photos courtesy of a guy on my new job whose Grandfather (John 'Scotty' Walker, back row right of keeper) was part of this treble winning side. A lovely gesture he somehow knew I would appreciate.
Incidentally their former ground Celtic Park is noe a shopping centre with a plaque and museum the only evidence of their existence.
