and for a split second

This is a common sight on the streets of Cairo. Spraying water, from rusty buckets or frayed, old water hoses, whatever may be handy. You can imagine the water evaporating the minute it hits the ground. The idea seems to be that the water somehow cools down the air, pushes the dust and grime down into the cracks in the street. The reality is that when you walk over it, the heat of the water rises up, humid and damp, and for a split second, it feels a hundred times worse than it did before.

On a very different note, I'm still sort-of-Macbook-less. The teeny netbook has thankfully been replaced with a nice big shiny Macbook Pro which I want to keep but it's just a substitute until I get mine back. I keep telling myself I wouldn't want to lug this heavy thing around but the screen is so big and shiny. I can't install photoshop on here, but in some ways I'm glad that I'm being forced to not use it. It's an interesting experiment if nothing else.

By the way, I wrote an article on MakeUseOf about a new photo sharing service, Yogile that I thought some of you might be interested in reading.
