Home stretch
Thirty three is a good number-it's a good amount, a good age but a bad, icky temperature. Too, too hot. In Fahrenheit that's ninety-two. Doesn't that just sounds dreadfully hot? Well it is.
On top of that, the wind gusted profusely all day. So much so that our neighbors suffered an awful mishap with their brand new glass patio table. They aren't good at remembering to collapse their huge, canvas umbrella after each outside gathering and it isn't screwed down tight enough in the table's center. I walked out one thundery evening this summer to quick pull some potted cuttings under cover and watched their umbrella take flight and twirl over the fence like a giant dandelion seed. It plunged into our yard where I collapsed it and brought it into my porch overnight, not realizing that they would wait till after the storm and then spend an hour looking for it up and down the alley.
Oh yes, their table. The wind forced the umbrella up and over, which bent the center ring of the table and shattered the huge slab of tempered glass into a million bits. I feel bad for them but it isn't as if they weren't aware that their umbrella is rogue.
Anyway, home stretch for summer here. Once this heatwave breaks, it isn't likely to get this hot again.
