Stone Columns
There is a small house at the top of Fairmount Ave and Meade going down to Interstate 8 that was bought and restored in recent years. I liked that they left the old stone columns that belonged to some previous owner of the site who must have owned more property than just the corner where the bungalow is.
There are several stone columns in the Kensington, Talmadge, City Heights and Normal Heights areas that belonged to different homes or residences that no longer exist. Just these left behind markers with no explanation or reference for the curious (like me) to use in discovering their histories.
When they restored this small house they copied the style of the stone columns and put them at the front ends of the home.
This shot shows the newer front copied column and the older original column further back on the side of the house.
The older one was made by someone who appreciated the stones and how they fit together - I can barely see the cement holding them in place. It's almost like a 3-D stone mosaic.
The newer one is okay - I think they really tried to copy the older version, but didn't quite have the flair for the medium.
