Grass.

This is my lawn. When we moved into our current house in late 2008, the back garden was completely covered with bark chippings, and not a flower nor even a bit of green to be seen. So the following spring I set about getting rid of the several tons of bark, digging the soil, preparing, digging again, preparing again, and finally sowing a lawn from seed. It literally took weeks. To be honest I didn't really think it would work, but I was hoping for maybe a small muddy patch for the kids to play on in a couple of years time. But to my surprise it did work, we had a reasonable patch of green last summer and it even managed to survive one of the worst winters for years. This summer it has flourished with a good mix of sun and loads of rain, and really feels like a proper established lawn. I like my grass.
