Locked in

My daughter brought this lock home from school today, I was struck by how different it looked and felt: It performs its function well i.e. it locks, but it feels so flimsy, not at all like the locks I buy down the shops, which are engineered to tight tolerances and feel so solid.

This lock is built of strong steels, but so loose, everything rattles, the spinner is so loose there is no feedback, how do you know when to stop, which number has registered etc..

Unusually, there is no makers name or county of origin, so I can't comment on cultural differences, an enigma, but I hope a nice photo.
