The Golden Running Shoe of Seaford
The 115 athletes who completed yesterday's Seaford Marathon, despite thunder, lightning, torrential rain, wind, mud, mist and risk of being trampled on by the members of an "Endurance Horse Event" held on the same trail, received this rather heavy, somewhat kitsch little memento (shown alongside a 50p piece for scale).
This was my slowest ever marathon (4:42:50), although I came a respectable 50th.
Personally, I prefer medals (I have a phrenolgist's porcelain head who wears my medals going back 20 years or so) and I'm not sure how to display this gaudy delight. Would make a good paperweight though.
