A problem or an opportunity?

My first day back at work and a meeting with my new boss (who seems like a very nice chap under the circumstances) to tell me that my job is 'earmarked' for kaputness and that I should go home to think about what to tell them, at a forthcoming meeting, why they shouldn't make me redundant. I feel it's a foregone conclusion in reality.
Damn that mortgage!
