Jefferson Nicaragua
i get frustrated posting blogs and pictures about my life in central america because noises are such a part of the experience (cows, roosters, horse-drawn carts, fireworks every day for no reason i can determine, etc.), and those just can't really be conveyed visually or with the written word.
this is Jefferson Nicaragua. (yes, that is like if my name were Julie United States of America.) he is deaf. he has a little sister in preschool who is about the noisiest and most talkative little thing with pigtails i've ever met, so she makes up for his silence. he is precious, but he misses out on the sounds of this country just like everyone at home who is reading what i write and seeing what i photograph.
nicaragua is about the most colorful place i've ever been in my life. teal and yellow and blue and orange and red. everything is painted happy colors, the sunsets are stunning, and the hills roll with greenness on every side of us. i was just thinking that i'm glad jefferson doesn't live some place like russia where everything is gray.
