TWM SION CATI

Once upon a time, in the year 1530, in Tregaron Cardiganshire, an illegitimate child was born in a little cottage called Porthyffynnon. He was the son of Sir John Wynn Esg of Gwydir, Llanrwst. Others said that he was the son of Sion ap Dafydd ap Madog ap Hywel Moethu. His mother was Chatherine, the daughter of Meredydd ap Ieuan, and that's why she was called Cati.
Twm grew up to be an expert horseman and a champion of the people, by robbing the rich to feed the poor.
He was given a pardon by the new Queen Elizabeth 1st, on January 15th 1559. After this, Twm turned over a new leaf in his life, being made High Sherriff and a Justice of the Peace.
He died in the year 1609. a rich and respectable man.
My blip today was taken in Tregaron , its a wooden carving in the centre of this small mid Wales market town and opposite the well known Talbot Hotel.
Twm Sion Cati was a hero
Roaming over hills and dales.
He was a free spirit who wandered
All over his beloved Wales
Cheating the wealthy and the greedy
So he could feed the poor and the needy
