A change of plan

On the drive back down from Aberfeldy last night, we got as far as Penrith and decided to take a turn off the motorway for a pit stop. At the roundabout, things took a turn for the worst. Our clutch packed in. Or at least that's what it felt like. So, I drove in first (eventually getting into gear) and petered to the side of the road. Along came our friendly recovery vehicle who, after we found out the price for recovery to Home, took us to a Penrith industrial estate where we slept outside (in our van) waiting for the garage to open in the morning. The garage turned out to be really great, but it was going to be a day and a half to do the job. So. HB and I donned our cycling gear, took the bare minimum clothing (including wetsuits), said goodbye to the van and cycled off to the lakes for an overnight adventure. We found ourselves a great B&B with Ullswater lake at the bottom of the garden. Here we lounged in the sunshine, after squaring the time off with my boss, and went for a bit of a splash in the lake with our wetsuits on. In the end, we didn't have to fork out for a new clutch either, just a new master cylinder. What fun. Made us think about how we could travel as light for longer next time...
