Driving South, Day 5

We finally made it to our home for the next four months, traveling from Ventura to Indio, CA. We watched the car thermometer steadily rise as we headed over the San Jacinto mountains into the Coachella Valley. Our day started with temperatures in the upper 60s and by the time we had reached our place in Indio it was 113ºF! The place we were staying had been locked up for months as was even hotter.

We tried to unpack and get things organized, but after three hours of non-stop sweating, even with the air conditioner cranked to its maximum, we had to concede defeat and headed to a nearby hotel to cool off. This was the view from our balcony, safely shot from inside out of the heat, as the sun was setting on our first evening in one of the hottest areas of the United States.
