Peggy
Sweetest thing...my daughter,
I never got her free.
Her price was more than rubies,
When she came down to me.
To see her round face looking up,
Was like a gleam of light.
To know that she had come to me,
And that I had the right.
To grow her up in learning,
To be often checked by God.
And to keep all things in order,
While she was on earth's sod.
She was so full of joy to me,
All through my strife.
For she pointed out in laughter,
The funny things in life.
And for me to have known her,
With her sweet and happy eyes.
Has given me the very best,
That proved to be a prize.
