Driving South, Day 2
Today, Medford, OR to Vacaville, CA, took us through beautiful Lake Shasta. In trips past, we have always raced through this amazing area attempting to reach our destination as soon as possible. We pledged on this trip to take our time, stopping where things looked interesting.
The Tail o' the Whale Restaurant at the I-5 bridge certainly qualified as interesting. While we enjoyed very good seafood, we also enjoyed this spectacular view. The dining room was decorated with rope, blocks, and tackle that looked to be taken straight from a turn of the century sailing ship, but everything was clean and maintained. Quite different from many of the "non-chain" restaurants that we have dedicated ourselves to eating in as we undertake this journey.
For those who don't know, Shelley (my wife) and I are moving to Mexico via a three month stay in Indio, CA. We sold our business, house, and most of our worldly possessions, said a tearful goodbye to our many friends, and loaded up our Mountaineer to drive south. This will be a sometimes chronicle of that adventure.
