Starting to See
Water is endlessly fascinating and elusive.
Nature Notes
It's been a while, but exciting things have been happening in my natural world!
Apart from all of the fledgling robins, jays, starlings and pigeons all around, the pigeons that I can see from my desk have a third brood! Today was the first day the parent left the 2 little fluff balls alone. They are a darkish gray colour and very well camoflauged.
Apparently when I was away in Belize, the previous babies came to an untimely end. They were killed and eaten by something - probably a red-tailed hawk. The caretaker had to climb up to the ledge to remove the remains. Yuck. I hope these two make it.
Grackles have been on the move for the past week or so. Flocks appear for a day and then are gone. The migration southward starts so slowly and quietly. I love noticing the natural rhythms.
Last note - the monarchs started moving last week. I've seen a few, flying seemingly aimlessly, but they are starting their migration too.
PS By way of apology, I'm exhausted, didn't sleep well last night so I just can't comment tonight, as much as I want to and as much as I miss my blip friends. Tomorrow....
Edit: For those of you who wondered, this is shallow water in a fountain rippling over concrete. That's why it looks like a desert or land.
