Leaves of Glass
A play by Philip Ridley @ the Alma Tavern, Bristol.
"You believe him cos he wraps all the painful stuff in feathers and flowers. Makes it all safe and cozy. You can't feel the broken glass inside."
BLURB:Ridley's 'Leaves of Glass' explores the power of grief, loss and lies through one seemingly normal family. Steven (pictured right) is distant, his brother Barry (left) is disturbed and his mother is unwilling - or unable - to confront the breakdown in her family. The secrets and traumas of their past are hidden and their cries of anguish are continually silenced in this twisted tale of modern family life.
If you're about in Bristol this week and have £8 to spare, I'd recommend this play for a good evening's entertainment. It certainly isn't life-changing, but thanks to the haunting and fragile portrayals of brothers Steven and Barry (by Michael Fox and Chris Levens) I've given a verdict of 6.5/10 - even if Barry did resemble Del Boy from only Fools and Horses. Then again, who doesn't like Del Boy?
