Carloway Broch

This is a 2,100 year old house, standing more than 40 feet tall a few miles southwest of Carloway, on the westside of Lewis. I don't think it would pass muster in today's building controls, with loose slabs, uneven stairways and low passages. And as a fortification (as described by some), it would not do much good either - it is reported to have had a thatched roof. One blazing arrow, and your whole broch would come crashing down.
