Flower carpet
A big thanks to everyone who commented on my penguin yesterday, he made it to the spotlight page! :)
Once every two years a flower carpet is created at the Grand Place, the historical central market square of Brussels. Every time it is created, the flower carpet has a different design. The carpet measures 77 x 24 m and it is created out of roughly 750,000 begonias!
The first flower carpet was created in 1971, by the landscape architect E. Stautemans. He started this tradition of creating these flower carpets to promote the begonia flower.
The carpet attracted quite a big crowd!
