what is this?

i've no idea. it landed on my arm while i was in lumberjack mode (again!) in the garden.
it is about 5mm long & ran fast! so am quite pleased with the sharpness of the hand-held macro image

have found that it is an early instar hawthorn shieldbug!!! what that means is, apparently, that the shieldbug goes through several stages, and this is an early one.
